Importin α2, also called KPNA2 (karyopherin α2), is an adaptor protein, which belongs to a family of nucleocytoplasmic transport proteins called karyopherin α (KPNA). This family contains around seven members, and KPNA2 is expressed in epidermal keratinocytes and undifferentiated embryonic cells.

应用

Anti-Importin a2 subunit antibody produced in chicken is suitable for western blotting analysis at a dilution of 1:500, for tissue or cell staining at a dilution of 1:200.

生化/生理作用

Importin subunit α-2 interacts with proteins associated with mRNA processing, ribonucleoprotein complex biogenesis, chromatin modification and transcription. KPNA2 expression is induced in tumor cells and in various proliferative disorders of the skin such as psoriasis, Bowen′s disease, actinic keratosis, squamous cell carcinoma, Paget′s disease, Merkel cell carcinoma, and mycosis fungoides. KPNA2 may act as an important promoter of ribosomal RNA and protein synthesis in tumor cells. Overexpression of KPNA2 is linked to poor prognosis in a variety of malignancies. KPNA2 functions as an adaptor by transporting several proteins to the nucleus. It might be a useful prognostic marker and an effective therapeutic target for gastric cancer (GC).
