一般描述
Thioredoxin (TXN) is a 12 kDa oxidoreductase enzyme containing a dithiol-disulfide active site, which is required for the redox regulatory function. It is widely expressed in many organisms from plants and bacteria to mammals. Multiple in vitro substrates for thioredoxin have been recognized, including ribonuclease, choriogonadotropin, coagulation factors, glucocorticoid receptor and insulin. Reduction of insulin is classically used as an activity test. TXN is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 9q31.

Thioredoxin (TXN) plays an important role in protecting cells against apoptosis under oxidative stress by enhancing the total antioxidant ability, reducing the reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels as well as by stabilizing the actin cytoskeletal system. It also plays an essential role in donating deoxyribonucleotides for DNA replication.
