一般描述
H2A histone family member Z (H2AFZ), which is a member of H2A family, is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 4q24. H2AFZ is expressed highly at gene promoters, as well as other regulatory regions, generally involved in positive regulation of transcription. The encoded protein is characterized with N- terminal tail with five lysine residues involved In acetylation and it is associated with mitotic progression.

H2A histone family member Z (H2AFZ) is considered to be a pathogenic factor of schizophrenia in male patients. H2A.Z plays a vital role in various epigenetic events, such as transcription, chromosome segregation and heterochromatin organization. It also has an essential role in embryonic stem (ES) cell pluripotency and differentiation. Increased expression of H2A.Z leads to various type of cancers, including breast cancer, bladder cancer and malignant melanoma cells.
