Cancer/testis antigen 1A (CTAG1A) is an identical copy of the CTAG1B gene (MIM 300156) (Aradhya et al., 2001 [PubMed 11709543]).[supplied by OMIM]. CTAG1A belongs to the CT (cancer/testis) family of antigens. The gene is located on human chromosome Xq28. It is expressed in testis, ovary and human tumors. The protein is also known as New York esophageal squamous cell carcinoma 1 (NY-ESO-1).

Cancer/ testis antigen 1A (CTAG1A) functions as an antigenic target for cancer vaccination. It plays an important role in tumor invasion and metastasis. The protein is associated with transcription process and its suppression in tumors is related to oncogenesis. It might be used as a biomarker of human spermatogonia.
