C17orf81 or ELP5 is a subunit of RNA polymerase II elongator complex that facilitates the p53-mediated transcriptional regulation. C17orf81 may also play a role in chromatin remodelling and acetylation of histones H3 and probably H4.Additionally, ELP5 is also essential for the integrity of elongator and connects ELP3 to ELP4, which in turn regulates tumorigenicity and migration of melanoma cells.
