Studies have also shown that HSPB2 is overexpressed in lung fibrosis. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 11q22-q23. The gene ID of the protein is 3316.

This association is important for the ubiquitination and degradation of NADPH oxidase 4 (Nox4). It is also crucial for the degradation of other proteins. HSPB2 interacts with myotonic dystrophy protein kinase (DMPK) and activates it.
